Simon uses a combination of traditional techniques including acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and Tui na Chinese Massage to treat a wide range of acute problems and long-standing ailments that may resist other forms of treatment.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely fine needles at specific points on the body for the purpose of treating various health conditions. Common problems that respond well to acupuncture include:
- Musculoskeletal conditions such as lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain and sciatica.
- Gastrointestinal disorders such as food allergies, nausea, indigestion and diarrhoea.
- Stress, anxiety and insomnia
- Headaches and migraines
- Womens health including menstrual pain and irregularity, endometriosis, menopausal symptoms and PMS.
See What is Acupuncture? for more information on the role of acupuncture and health.
Moxibustion is a type of heat applied to the body from the herb mugwort, which is grown in colder climates of China.
Moxibustion is used for muscular skeletal disorders such as back, knee or shoulder pain, or anywhere on the body to help relieve pain and create more mobility in movement. It can also be used very effectively to treat conditions such as period pain, digestive disorders and insomnia. This technique has a gentle warming effect which feels relaxing and can be applied in many different ways.
Cupping is also used to treat muscular skeletal disorders by placing cups firmly on areas of pain or discomfort on the back or shoulders to help relieve both pain and tension. The cups are usually in place for a few minutes (it is not painful). The cups leave a circular mark on the area which disappears within 2 to 5 days depending on the severity of a person’s condition.
Simon uses massage when required, such as to help a patient relax, to relieve tension or pain in certain areas of the body before or in between using acupuncture to treat a certain condition.
Simon’s treatments are designed to return the body back to a state of health and well being and remove pain in a relaxing environment.
